"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" is an upcoming American supernatural comedy film directed by Gil Kenan and co-written by Kenan and Jason Reitman. Serving as the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and the fifth installment in the Ghostbusters franchise, the film features an ensemble cast, including Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, Logan Kim, and the return of iconic characters played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton. Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt also join the cast.
The storyline unfolds after the events of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, where the veteran Ghostbusters team up with their new recruits to safeguard New York City from a formidable and chilling adversary. Following the success of Afterlife, the sequel was announced in April 2022, with Gil Kenan taking over as the director in December of the same year. New cast members, including Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind, were revealed in March 2023.
"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" is set to hit theaters in the United States on March 29, 2024, distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing.
